WHO WE ARE
The Georgia Society of
Dermatologists Political Action Committee (GA DERM PAC) represents the
political interests of Georgia dermatologists and their patients.
Contributed funds are used to show bipartisan support of our friends in
the Georgia legislature who champion the causes and concerns important to
dermatology and medicine in our state.
WHAT WE DO
Our mission is to
maintain and strengthen political support for legislative issues facing
dermatologists and their patients in Georgia. We do this by gaining
support from the dermatology community and supporting elected officials
who champion our causes. The GA DERM PAC helps these officials get
elected and re-elected, so they can continue to help our patients and our
profession, as the force of opposition grows stronger.
THE ISSUES
The laser fight is
greater than the one specific issue, but represents an effort by non
trained or licensed individuals to practice a form of medicine. This is
obviously bad for patients and puts the public at risk for misdiagnosis
and injury from untrained and unsupervised non medical personnel. In
essence this represents an attack upon and erosion of the physician's
sphere of medical care.
WHY IT'S IMPORTANT
Without the support of
informed officials, the integrity of medicine and patients safety in
Georgia will be in jeopardy. We must ensure that our supporters have the
resources to remain in office. We need to elect legislators who care.
The GA DERM PAC must
remain engaged in policy debate in the political arena. As we face
well-organized, well-funded and determined adversaries who expend
resources on capturing political clout, we must be equally well prepared.
Our friends in the legislature will help us stand strong in support of
what is in the best interest of our patients and our practices.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
You can help preserve the
autonomy of medical practice, patient safety, and the physician's control
of medical decisions. Show legislators that you care about maintaining
the quality and integrity of skin care in Georgia. Our elected officials
need to hear from you about how medicine should be practiced now and in
the future!

There has been some wide
spread confusion and misconceptions regarding corporate or LLC donations to
GA DERM PAC or any state PAC. Many have been told by their accountants that
corporations can not make donations to state PAC’s. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY
INCORRECT. In the state of Georgia corporations can make donations directly to
a candidate or to a state PAC such as GA DERM PAC. Georgia state regulations are
different from federal regulations and that is most likely where the confusion
and misinformation originated. Please make your contributions on behalf of your company to
GA DERM PAC now. We need the support to continue making forward progress with our
Georgia legislatures. |
